Happy July 4th!

By Team Ziploc (former Team E)

Our YLC leaders enjoyed the fourth of July festivities yesterday! We had a great time at Mariner’s Square, South Beach State Park, and watching the fireworks at Stayton Middle School near YLC.
YLC builders and leaders left the campground approximately 8:30 AM for our long day in Newport, Oregon! As we finally got to Mariner’s Square after a two-hour drive (which felt forever), most leaders entered the gift shop to see all kinds of cool stuff and souvenirs. Some of us strolled around Mariner’s Square to see fish markets, seafood restaurants, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Wax Museum, and hippie shops.  Some went to Mo’s, the famous seafood restaurant, but for those who did not like seafood ended up eating at Wood Burned Pizza restaurant.
In the afternoon, we finally got to the beach! Of course, the leaders ran to the beach and dove into Pacific Ocean. Some leaders have never seen the ocean before! We enjoyed hanging out at the beach, even though the water was so cold due to the Alaskan ocean current. Then, came the evening program: sand castle competition! Luckily, before we proceeded with the evening program, Team E and D got their team names! Team E is now the Ziploc and Team D is Supfuels.
Within 30 minutes of creating our own sand castles, Outlets won the sand castle competition.  Afterwards, we finally did our traditional YLC photo and, then,  started our 4th of July cookout!
After a long day, most leaders fell asleep on the bus on the way to Stayton but that did not stop them from enjoying the fireworks at Stayton!  Us, YLCers, managed to get the best seat on the baseball field; such a great opportunity to watch the fireworks up close. As the fireworks started, most of us dropped our jaws and were amazed with the fireworks!  After the fireworks,  we returned back to YLC to get our rest for our YLC reality the next day.
